Product Review

Villicote® is an effective medication that helps to reinstate a healthy intestinal lining in inflammatory bowel disease patients. It works by restoring the mucin layer of intestines, which is responsible for mechanically protecting the cells lining the intestinal tract and serves as a barrier against microbial toxins. The active ingredient in Villicote® is 2-Acetamido-2-deoxy-D-Glucose (2ADG), which is a type of carbohydrate that allows intestinal cells to make more mucin, while using less energy. It does this by bypassing certain steps in the enzymatic process that our bodies use to make the saccharide side chains of mucin.

After using Villicote® for just one month, many patients see a great reduction in the severity or frequency of symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding.

Villicote® comes in powder form in sachet packaging. Patients take up to three 2g sachets (6g total) in separate doses throughout the day. You can mix the naturally sweet tasting Villicote® powder with any hot or cold beverage, or sprinkle it on any food that you wish. Villicote® is not suitable for those with shellfish allergies, but it has no known interactions with any other medications.

The product is available without a prescription. Its Natural Product Number is NPN 80033783. The NPN is a traceable eight-digit number located on the product label found on all natural health products legally licensed for sale in Canada. This number means that the product has been assessed by Health Canada and deemed to be safe, effective, and of high quality.
